When did you come on board at James and James and what do you do here?
I joined the team in September 2017 and I'm a Web Developer.
What are you best known for?
I'm best known for being 'Halfpint'.
At Christmas parties after a few too many drinks I occasionally get on stage and rap. Other than that I'm well known for solving challenging techy problems.
When I first joined the company I had only just passed my driving test, we already have an Alex on the team so naturally, the team was eager to find a nickname for me. We were out on a team lunch and I hadn't eaten that morning; everyone had ordered a pint, I followed suit and it went to my head...half way through, I hid the half-drunk pint behind a menu and as we stood to leave, Alex spotted it.
I was crowned Halfpint and it has stuck since then.
What was your pre-James and James job?
I was an independent contractor for a company in the USA, building applications for the oil and gas industry.
Did you go to Uni?
I went to Plymouth University and studied Computer Science where I achieved a 1:1.
Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Kettering and raised in Wellingborough.
Do you have a fulfilment background?
Not at all. My background was in the oil and gas industry building applications to test the safety and performance of fraccing equipment.
Best thing about working here?
I love learning new things and solving challenging problems - we never have a shortage of these at James and James. We have an extremely talented team of developers with a diverse range of personalities and areas of expertise, everybody is working to the same high-standards and our goals are aligned.
We also have a great team culture with plenty of humour coupled with seriousness when it's needed and continually deliver projects to a high standard.
Any notable projects you've worked on?
I've worked on a lot of really cool projects since joining the team. My favourite was the rewrite of our internal capture tool which determines the pick route for an operator.
What's the biggest challenge you've experienced since working here?
When I first joined, I was very much a "yes man". Over the years I've learned how to say no and challenge ideas to help come up with new ones.
Describe James and James in three words - go...
Fun. Fast. Challenging.
What advice would you give to new starters?
Don't be afraid to ask questions, the team are friendly and keen to help you learn.
Tea or coffee?
Coffee, I just loooove cofffee...
An important one: Fave food?
I'm torn between steak, pasta and pizza and I can't explain why...I just love food.
What's your party trick/hidden talent?
I can make an extremely realistic pig noise.
What are you most proud of, outside of work?
Training for a powerlifting competition, learning new tech, and working on side projects.
